Job Description:
Coverage Design EngineerThis is an experienced position with VWT Client’s engineering department targeting individuals with a degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE). This is a full time position requiring a minimum of 40 hours of weekly service. Positions are available at three campuses, which are Glen Rock, NJ, Chicago, IL, and San Diego, CA.
The majority of time will be spent on performing propagation studies for various projects associated with the 800 MHz Rebanding initiative. These tasks may range from coverage prediction for small single site systems to very large multi-site county or statewide systems. To accomplish this task, the coverage design engineer will work using the HydraSM software propagation tool to predict coverage analysis for projects.
The coverage design engineer will be introduced to the concept of design reviews, focusing on the coverage aspects of the project. Antenna network design will be a secondary task. Field visits to various customer locations might be required in order to gain familiarity with the elements associated with 800 MHz Rebanding. The coverage design engineer will provide technical support and systems design on two-way Radio Communication product applications. This includes: Customer needs analysis, RF coverage and site evaluation, system design, and customer presentations.
The coverage design engineer will receive supervision and guidance from Field Engineering Managers, Lead Engineers, Program Managers, and mentoring from other engineers. The coverage design engineer is responsible for meeting personal commitments and maintaining quality of personal output. Basic computer skill knowledge is required, and the candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. This position requires access to proprietary information, and is subject to a background check.
Qualifications and Skills - Minimum: BSEE degree, experience with RF distribution systems, working knowledge of RF propagation theory, familiarity with RF site design, interpersonal and teamwork skills, excellent communications skills, demonstrated leadership skills, and a real commitment to excellence. Desired: Designed and implemented RF distribution systems, well versed in RF propagation theory, detailed knowledge of the 800 MHz Rebanding initiative, detailed knowledge of FCC rules and regulations on RF spectrum, and database design.
The Business: Designing Two-way Radio communications system infrastructures for state, local, commercial and public safety markets. The two-way radio business includes numerous innovative products such as: Communications Control Centers, FM Analog and Digital Radios and Systems, Signaling and Remote Control Systems, and Wireless Data Systems.
Project Duration: Individual(s) selected will be required to participate in at least two weeks of training beginning in July, 2005. The location of the training is undetermined. If travel is required, our client would be responsible for the associated expenses. Initial term of engagement is 90 days, and based upon performance and project needs, may be extended up to 12 months.
